Dubai hosted the Telecoms World Middle East’s 14th annual event on September 17-18th. 200 speakers were scheduled to speak this year with anticipated attendees exceeding 1,000. The conference not only focuses on the Middle East area but North & East Africa and Central & South Asia.

The conference has 4 events that take up the two-day conference: Strategy, Innovation and Partnerships for Telcos, Carriers World, Telecoms World and Submarine Networks.

More events are adopting innovation areas for upcoming companies in technology industries. This year Telecoms World Middle East will debut its “Innovation Zone” for start-up companies giving them a chance to get their feet wet and network at a discounted rate.

A big topic of discussion is the turning era for television and where it will go from here. STARZ PLAY and Flixfling both discussed how television as we once knew it is dying and becoming more of an on-demand viewing experience. Flixfling gives attendees a glance of online live TV with 5G implemented.

MEO satellites were another big discussion at this event. Companies are looking to launch more MEO satellites into orbit to support the connectivity demand. The lower lying satellites can yield services where current infrastructure does not exist. Due to them being in a higher altitude than LEO, less satellites are needed to cover the planet, but more would be needed for continuous coverage.
